Disney/Pixar’s Brave Review

The newest Disney/Pixar film to come out, Brave has come out on Blu-Ray and DVD.  I finally had the chance to watch and review this computer animated movie.  In a nutshell, the story of Brave revolves around Merida, a skilled archer and daughter of King Fergus and Queen Elinor.  Bound to a fate that has been caved for her, Merida fights to carve her own path in life, despite the age-old traditions that her kingdom has followed for quite a long time.  In her attempt to go her own way, Merida finds an old witch, who helps unleash  chaos upon her life and family.  Now Merida must try discovering the true meaning of bravery  before the curse of the witch permanently holds her kingdom under the beastly curse takes hold forever.

After watching this family movie through to the end, I thought that the movie was entertaining to watch and, because of Pixar’s magic, weaved a nice tale of adventure and understanding between a daughter and her mother.  But because of the fact that the movie came from Pixar, the overall movie didn’t quite hold up to the standards that Pixar has created for themselves.

When I saw movies like Toy Story, Up, The Incredibles and Cars, it does seem that Brave falls a bit short of the mark that these other movies seem to have created.  But that’s not saying that Brave is bad.  It’s just saying that compared to the other movies in the repertoire of other Pixar movies,   Brave just feels…a tad short.  The only Pixar movie that I just couldn’t get into was Up, only because the back story was so sad and depressing.  I had a hard time enjoying that one.  Brave was still way better, but I can’t quite touch on what makes Brave not quite up there with the other Pixar movies.

That said, I still found myself enjoying the movie.  The film was done very well, the acting and animation was superb.  The story, wonderful.  Despite how the middle of the story goes, which was a little sloggy, by the end of the movie, it’s hard not being affected by the emotional ending of Brave.  What else can you expect from a Disney and Pixar made story?

In the end, I had a good time watching Brave, and would recemend people to watch this film.  It was very entertaining and fun to watch.
